FORUM RECAP: December discussion offers insight into coordination with parks commissions & friends groups

Scheduling and technology issues aside, the December forum on Parks Commissions and Friends Groups was another success! The virtual discussion was filled with informative advice and analysis on the working relationship between parks and trail systems and these valuable groups.

Organization representatives from around the state were able to share how their programs are run and the benefits and challenges of having public representative groups. Our parks and trails professionals provided an overview of their plans for the future of their facilities in conjunction with these groups, including budgeting for activities, managing coordination and support, and addressing various resources and tips for increasing member engagement.

For example, members shared how many seats they fill on boards, stipends, meeting locations, and meeting frequency. Forum attendees currently working on developing a new board or friends groups received a lot of great information. As always, it is nice to hear how other agencies from around the state manage various programs like this and walk away with confirmation that we are going in the right direction or giving great ideas for improvements that inspire others.
