From the Chair: Spring has sprung!

Below is a message from GMPT Chair Gina Hugo. You can reach her at gina.hugo@co.sherburne.mn.us.

Spring is bursting forth with such energy and much-needed rainfall! We hope this month’s issue finds you and your staff thriving just the same—welcoming all the spring and summer activities that make our facilities so popular. It makes one pause to consider what a big part of people’s lives our facilities have become: a daily walking spot, regular connection with nature, play with family, single track riding with friends, distance cycling on Regional Trails, the list goes on. These activities and more highlight the positive impact our work has on the quality of life for residents of Greater Minnesota—well done!

With summer recreation on our minds, we are getting creative with planning our Summer Meeting, and we assure you, it is one you will not want to miss! Working with the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks & Trails Commission (GMRPTC), we have developed a great lineup of morning presentations on accessibility, sports equipment fleets, the legislative session in review, and more. Lunch will feature locally made fare and be followed by an invitation to take an hour to recreate ourselves! The City of Elk River will be hosting the event at Woodland Trails Regional Park, where the Great Northern Regional Trail’s south end is anchored. Bring your bike to ride the trail, explore the nature play area, walk the trails, or participate in archery programming!

Make sure to mark your calendars for this year’s Summer Meeting on July 17—co-hosted with the GMRPTC!
