Join us for legislative action kick-off and week!
With a legislative session that will be mostly virtual to start, the GMPT has decided that a virtual legislative action day is the way to go. But because it’s virtual, we’re going to step it up a notch and make it a legislative action week!
The week will kick off at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14. GMPT lobbyist Elizabeth Wefel and Chair Ben Anderson will talk about our legislative priorities and provide tips on how to lobby. Greater Minnesota Regional Parks & Trails Commission Executive Director Renee Mattson will talk about their activities and what’s ahead for 2022. And special guest DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen will join us to talk about the DNR’s legislative goals, strategic initiatives and working together to ensure that all of Minnesota’s parks and trails thrive.
An important part of any legislative action day (or week) is meeting with legislators. We plan to set up a series of virtual meetings with legislators, primarily from the Capital Investment Committee, to talk about our push for funding local parks and trails grant programs. We invite GMPT members to participate in these virtual meetings, even if you just want to listen in. The meetings will last 15-30 minutes and will happen throughout the week of February 14 – 18.
If you would like to participate in the legislative action day kick-off on Feb. 14, please sign up here. We are still in the process of scheduling meetings with legislators, but we will follow-up with sign-in information, dates and times to everyone who is interested. If you would like to participate or learn more about the meetings with individual legislators, please email Elizabeth Wefel at eawefel@flaherty-hood.com.
