RECAP: May forum highlighted archaeological surveys & grants
GMPT’s May forum covered the new grant opportunity through the Greater MN Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC) designed to reduce cost barriers for Designated Parks and Trails as they conduct the necessary environmental studies ahead of improvement projects.
Archaeological Surveys fall into the category of environmental studies and are a critical part of careful planning, sound design, and successful construction. The forum featured guest speaker and new GMPT Business Member Dr. Jeremy Nienow—a professional archaeologist and lifelong preservationist. Dr. Nienow discussed circumstances that require archaeological surveys, provided an overview of Phase I, II, and II archaeological surveys, and answered questions from GMPT members.
