From the Chair: Transformation is the name of the parks & trails game

Below is a message from GMPT Chair Gina Hugo. You can reach her at gina.hugo@co.sherburne.mn.us.

Have you ever wondered how long it takes for a dragonfly to emerge from its exoskeleton? I have—and this past weekend, I got to witness it and record the time it takes to do so! In a getaway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA), it was a perfect way to spend two mornings with my best friends! From the time the nymph stages crawl out of the water to when the wings are dry enough to fly, it is about 90 minutes. Much faster than I ever imagined and the most captivating display of transformation I have ever witnessed.

If you think about it, our work is all about transformations. Landscapes, habitat, trail connections, and programming. Celebrate your most recent park transformation by sending us your story! Or better yet, attend the GMPT Summer Meeting and share your transformation story in person! Our agenda features a great lineup filled with motivational networking and inspiring project presentations, so make sure to register. We can’t wait to see you!
