Apply today! DNR community forestry grants available

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently offering Urban and Community Forestry Grants called the 2025 ReLeaf Community Forestry Grant Program and the 2025 Community Tree Planting Grant Program. Minnesota is investing in the future of its urban and community forests with these two grant opportunities totaling $12 million for 2025.
These programs support local governments and nonprofits working to restore, protect, and diversify tree cover across the state. The DNR has recently expanded the Priority Areas Map for both these grant programs, meaning more communities are now eligible for these grants. The updated map now includes census tracts at or above the 70th percentile when compared at the state level, not just nationally to better align with other local community forestry grants.
Applicants can request up to $500,000 from each grant. There is no minimum request or matching funds required, making these grants accessible to a wide range of communities and organizations. Application deadlines are as follows:
- Community Tree Planting Grants – due October 27, 2025
- ReLeaf grants – due November 11, 2025
More information can be found on the DNR’s community forestry grants webpage. For questions on these grants or the application process, please contact ucf.dnr@state.mn.us.
