GMPT adopts 2026 Legislative Agenda
Every year at our annual meeting, the GMPT adopts its legislative policies and agenda for the upcoming session, and this year was no different. The legislative policies are a relatively static set of principles that govern both our affirmative requests at the Legislature and how we respond to proposals. We did not make any changes to our legislative policies this year.
Our legislative agenda describes what we plan to work on during the legislative year. We adopt a set of them each year—they are often similar, but almost never identical. Our agenda includes one brand-new policy: to modernize the statutory language governing the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC) so that the decade-old language better reflects how the Commission has evolved. We also adopted a policy to support the extension of the expiration date of unspent parks and trails Legacy funds, as well as allowing unspent funds to be redistributed. The final two policies are aimed more at local park and trail grant programs: supporting the passage of an LCCMR bill and a bonding bill with funding for local and regional park and trail grant programs.
