GMPT endorses campaign to fund outdoor recreation

This fall, there’s a ballot question on which all Minnesotans should be able to agree regardless of their political affiliation.

More than 30 years ago, 77% of Minnesota voters said “yes” to using a portion of the Minnesota lottery to help restore and protect Minnesota’s water, land, and wildlife and to promote outdoor recreation through the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF). In November, voters will again be asked whether to continue this critical policy.

For the last 25 years, the ENRTF has been an important funding source for parks and trails across Minnesota through Legislature-approved recommendations from the Legislative Citizens Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR). The Department of Natural Resources’ local parks and trails grant programs—as well as projects for many GMPT members—have been regularly funded by the ENRTF. It is essential that this vital source of funding continues well into the future.

Because dedicated resources are vital for Minnesota’s great outdoors, the GMPT Board voted to endorse the campaign supporting this ballot measure. We will be lending our name in support, and we encourage our members to support it as the election approaches.

There is always more room for supporters. If your organization would like to endorse the campaign, you can sign up using this form.
