Get engaged with statewide boards on parks, trails and the environment

Several statewide boards that address funding for parks and trails and the environment are seeking new members. If you or someone from your community is interested, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission
The commission makes recommendations on how Greater Minnesota’s share of the parks and trails Legacy funds should be allocated. There is an opening for District 2, which covers the northwest corner of the state (Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami, Itasca, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Clearwater, Norman, Mahnomen, Polk, Red Lake, and Pennington counties). You can learn more about the commission here. Contact Renee Mattson at renee.mattson@gmrptcommission.org with any questions.

Parks & Trails Legacy Advisory Committee
The mission of this committee is to champion the 25-year parks and trails legacy plan by providing recommendations on its implementation. The committee includes members from the metro area and Greater Minnesota, but at the moment Greater Minnesota members are greatly outnumbered. Please complete the online application here. Applications are due Oct. 25.

Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR)
LCCMR makes recommendations on how proceeds from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund should be spent and it is the most time-intensive of these groups. The Governor, House and Senate all appoint public members, and they are all accepting applications at this moment. You can learn more about LCCMR’s work here and apply here.
