GMRPTC Update: MNPAiR project creates media buzz

Below is a message from GMRPTC Executive Director Renee Mattson. You can reach her at renee.mattson@gmrptcommission.org.

The Minnesota Parks Artists in Residence (MNPAiR) project—which GMRPTC has done in collaboration with the Minnesota DNR and the Metropolitan Council Regional Parks—is nearing the finish line. Over the past six months, artists have been working their artistic magic in a variety of mediums and engaging the public to help them envision what type of project will take place in their assigned parks. The project was built around the idea of creating a sense of welcome and belonging in parks, with citizen-inspired ideas and their help to create the art.

We have worked with our public relations firm, Greenfield Public Relations, to gain media exposure and recognition for this amazing initiative and, as usual, they came through. A recent statewide media release spurred several articles. The biggest exposure, though, came with an October 12 WCCO morning show interview conducted with Gina Hugo and the artist working at Sherburne County Two Inlets at Bdé Heḣáka – Omashkooz Zaaga’igaans Park, Lindsay Buck. Gina and Lindsey made a very early drive to Minneapolis to appear on the morning show at 7am with host Susan Elizabeth Littlefield.

They both did an amazing job describing the project and the importance of public art in parks. They were able to relay a lot about the project in just 3 minutes and 8 seconds – great job, Gina and Lindsey! Click here to view their appearance on WCCO.
